Invitation : The opera Der Kaiser von Atlantis

The composer Viktor Ullmann and librettist Petr Kien, both of whom perished in the holocaust. In 1942, while imprisoned in the concentration camp Terezin, they wrote this opera, which was rehearsed in the camp, but never performed. The musical score was discovered in the 1970’s and since then the opera has gained a new life.

The Manhattan School of Music will present 4 performances of this short theatrical work (the total length is about 1 hr), taking place in the Ades Performance space of MSM at 130 Claremont Ave in Manhattan. The performances are on April 9 and 10, at 7pm and 9pm.
