Commemoration of František Škroup in Rotterdam

Ambassador Jana Reinišová honored the memory of Mr František Škroup, composer and author of the Czech national anthem, on June 3, 2019, at Rotterdam cemetery Crooswijk.

 

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in The Hague together with the Czech Centre in Rotterdam organized commemoration of birthday of František Škroup (June 3, 1801), the  Czech composer, conductor and author of  a song that later became the Czech national anthem. František Škroup composed operas as well as chamber and orchestral music pieces and he conducted the orchestra in the most famous theatre in Prague at that time.  In 1860, František Škroup moved to Rotterdam to conduct the opera orchestra. Two years later (on February  7, 1862), he died and was burried at Crooswijk Cemetery.
