Cyprus student awarded in International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice

In 2016 students from Cyprus participated in the Lidice arts competition for the first time. Ambassador Helena Bambasová handed over an honorable diploma to Sofia Kostrikis from the American International School in Cyprus who was awarded in the 44th edition.

The International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice (ICEFA) was established in 1967 to commemorate the child victims from the Czech village of Lidice murdered by German Nazis in 1942, as well as all other children who have died in wars. This exhibition became an international event and is well known among children and teachers not only in the Czech Republic but nearly all over the world. Every year the Lidice Memorial in cooperation with UNESCO opens a new themed competition. In 2016 more than 18 thousand works from over 75 countries participated and sent their works under the title “School? Education!”.

This year students from Cyprus took part in the Lidice competition for the first time. Sofia Kostrikis, age 11, from the American International School in Cyprus became the first awarded Cypriot participant. Ambassador of the Czech Republic Mrs. Helena Bambasová visited the school to hand over the honorable diploma and to congratulate Sofia on her success. She expressed hope that even more students would be encouraged to take part in the ICEFA in 2017. The AISC students submitted most of the 22 works from Cyprus registered in 44th edition and Ambassador Bambasová therefore thanked the AISC Director Mrs. Michelle Kleiss for her strong support of the project.

The next 45th edition will be open until February 2017 under the title “Travel”.
