"Children of Nagano" at the Montreal International Children's Film Festival

The Czech sports film "Children of Nagano" directed by Dan Pánek will be presented as part of the International Children's Film Festival in Montreal.

The film will be screened as part of the festival on Wednesday, March 6 at 2:20 p.m. and on Friday, March 8 at 10:00 a.m. Festival films will be screened at Montreal's Beaubien Cinema. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ottawa financially supported the film's participation in the festival.

The family film “Children of Nagano” will remind viewers of the atmosphere of the nineties, specifically 1998, when the Czech hockey players celebrated a spectacular victory at the Olympic tournament of the century in Nagano.

Eleven-year-old Dominik is ecstatic when our team defeats Canada at the tournament of the century in Nagano and heads to the gold medal match. Although he is a bit of an outsider himself, he decides to buy a hockey stick and play hockey with his friends as much as possible. Mainly with tennis ball on the concrete area behind the house and they name their team Saber. They hold the hockey stick more like a broom, but they start working on a big challenge - to beat the Red Wings team of bigger boys from the next village. After the initial debacle, Saber is taken over by a quirky coach and father of Honza, a former extra-league hockey player. The coach takes a very strange and disparate group of children into the show, and in no time they begin to believe in a spectacular revenge!

Hockey fever, when everyone wanted to be like Hašek or Jágr, also gets the dreamer Dominik and a group of his friends from school. Hynek Čermák will then lead the whole group of boys to an important hockey match against the rivals from the next village. The game will be for victory, for respect and also for the first kiss of the best girl in the class. "Besides hockey and fulfilling dreams, Children of Nagano is about friendship, love, parenthood. The boys deal with problems at school and at home, Dominik is already looking for the girl from the neighborhood," says screenwriter and director Dan Pánek about the film.

The adult roles are played by Hynek Čermák, Klára Issová, Pavel Batěk, Otakar Brousek, Taťjana Medvecká, Štěpánka Fingerhutová or Simona Babčáková. The main character is played by Tom Brenton, Johanka Racková and Fabian Šetlík in other children's roles. Hockey icon Dominik Hašek also has a role in the film.
