Embassy Closure: Public Holiday - Friday, March 29, 2024, and Monday, April 1, 2024

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Ulaanbaatar will be closed in observance of Easter on March 29, 2024, and April 1, 2024. Easter, the most significant Christian holiday, celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is also a time for engaging in folk traditions that welcome spring.

In the Czech Republic, unique Easter customs include feasting and 'whipping.' On Easter Monday morning, men and boys visit the homes of female acquaintances, lightly whipping women and girls with handmade willow twig whips. These whips, intertwined from up to twenty-four twigs, range from half to two meters in length and are adorned with a braided handle and colorful ribbons. During this ritual, men recite traditional carols.
