Termination of the Visa Agenda at the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bucharest

Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bucharest informs that in connection with Romania’s full implementation of the Schengen acquis the visa and residence permit agenda at the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bucharest will be terminated as of  March 31, 2024. Starting from March 31, 2024, only the Dresden Visa Centre will be the competent office to receive and process all applications for visas and residence permits in the Schengen area.

Following Council Decision 2024/210, Romania will be a Schengen member state fully applying the Schengen acquis as of March 31, 2024, and controls of persons at internal air and sea borders will be abolished. After that date, checks on persons will remain in force at land borders only.

Border controls from March 31, 2024
Starting from March 31, 2024, checks carried out by Romania at its external borders will be carried out in relation to the Schengen area and not only to its own territory. As a result, the 90-day period of stay in the Schengen area in any 180-day period will start to be calculated from the moment a third-country national enters Romania from outside the Schengen area.

In connection with the above, please be informed that as of March 31, 2024, the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bucharest will not accept any visa applications due to a visa agenda termination.

As of March 31, 2024, only the Dresden Visa Centre will be the competent office to receive and process all visa applications and residence permits in the Schengen area.
