Director General for European Issues Jaroslav Kurfürst visited Romania

On 25 April 2023, Jaroslav Kurfürst, Director General for European Issues, held talks in Bucharest with Daniela Grigore Gîtman, Secretary of State for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania. The meeting focused on the response to the Russian aggression against Ukraine, support for Moldova, further EU enlargement and current European and bilateral issues. In Bucharest, Jaroslav Kurfürst visited the Euro-Atlantic Resilience Centre and learned about its activities.
 

Jaroslav Kurfürst expressed satisfaction with the strengthening and prospects of further deepening of political dialogue and confirmed Czechia’s constant support for Romania's accession to the Schengen area. Also, he appreciated the assistance that both governments provide to the Czech minority in Romania and recalled that this year this community will celebrate the 200th anniversary of its arrival in Banat.

The meeting confirmed the distinctive closeness of the Czech and Romanian positions on international issues. Jaroslav Kurfürst appreciated Romania's significant support for Ukraine and the unique role that Romania plays in relation to Moldova. State Secretary Gîtman praised the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the professionalism with which it was conducted.

The two diplomats discussed further EU enlargement, energy security, green transition, regional security and other European issues.

During his visit to the Euro-Atlantic Resilience Centre, Director General Kurfürst expressed Czechia’s support for this Romanian initiative and discussed the Centre's mission and activities with its President Ovidiu Raețchi.
